Description
The Gabai River (Malay: Sungai Gabai), a minor river in the Langat River basin, flows from the 1,462-metre-high (4,797 ft) Big Ghost Mountain (Malay: Gunung Besar Hantu) in the state of Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia into the Dipterocarp forest reserve of the Hulu Langat district in the adjacent state of Selangor.
Gabai Falls
In Hulu Langat, the river descends in a set of waterfalls known as the Gabai Falls (Malay: Air Terjun Sungai Gabai), a popular attraction for the locals, but relatively unknown with tourists. A cemented path leads from the parking to the lower falls. Along the path several shelters have been built. The upper falls can be reached by trails. This is a nice place for a picnic.
To visit the Gabai Falls, first you have to go to Ulu Langat, a small village which can be reached from Cheras or Ampang.
Next you follow the road to Kg Pangsun for about 7 km until Batu 18 where you turn right.
After 6 km you will see the signboard for the falls.
Turn left and follow the road until you reach the car park. From the car park it is not far to the first cascade. This cascade is tall but not very steeply inclined.
Visitors can find a nice place on the rocks and enjoy their bath with Jacuzzi.
In several places shelters have been erected to rest and enjoy the view. Cemented steps lead to the upper regions of the falls and bridges make the crossing of the stream an easy job. In the background the second cascade is visible. The upper cascades have nice pools which are inviting for a bath and as is mostly the case, the upper falls are less crowded. It is possible to continue after the cascades, just following the stream. As a reward you will find another attractive waterfall!
The water between the two rock faces is very deep, only suitable for good swimmers.
