Petaling District

Petaling District is a district (daerah in Malay) located in the state of Selangor in Malaysia, not to be confused with the city of Petaling Jaya located in it, nor the sub district (mukim) of Petaling within Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya within Petaling district.

The district of Petaling was established on 1 February 1974, the same day Kuala Lumpur was declared a Federal Territory. This district is located in the middle of the Klang Valley adjacent the capital, and thus has experienced tremendous urbanization. During the 1991 census, it recorded 633,165 people. In the official 2010 census, it recorded 1,782,375 people. It covers some 484.32 km² in area, the urban centers are divided into the cities of Shah Alam and Petaling Jaya and the town of Subang Jaya(district capital). However, there are numerous town subdivisions, old sub district administrations (mukim), all of which share the same names like Damansara, Subang, and Petaling, which add much to the administrative confusion along with the rapid growth. Some five types of subdivisions exist for Petaling District, namely the re-organized municipal council majlis, the majlis subdivisions, the community names (aka townships), electoral constituencies, and the subdivisions ("mukim").

It is host to many thriving townships such as the Damansara area, which hosts several shopping malls including a Tesco outlet, and the largest Ikea outlet in Southeast Asia. Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport is situated in Subang.

Sunway Lagoon for a fun day and experience the wonders of over 90 rides and attractions spread across Water Park, Amusement Park, Extreme Park and Wildlife Park. This water park won an award on trip advisor this year and is rated by them as the N0 1 tourist attraction in this area.(2016)

Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall There are so many nice and interesting shops in this mall. You can find everything here from food, entertainment, shopping, movie theatres, bowling alley; it also has an ice skating ring and a lagoon beside it. There is a resort by it and even a hospital.

Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque With the famous name of "Blue Mosque" due to the blue colour of the biggest dome in Malaysia, completed in 1988. The mosque still keeps the world's tallest group of minarets as the set of four each stand at 142.3 m. Under the blue sky, the mosque really looks nice. Never mind you are Muslim or not, you may feel it a very peaceful area.

Frim- Forest Research institute of Malaysia Have in mind that this is not a park like any other. To go the trail inside the rainforest, we had to go with a guide. The tour was cheap and if you are interested in learning more about trees and the rainforest this is a wonderful place to start.

Farm in the City is the place for visitors who want to enjoy a non-traditional zoo experience. It is located out in Seri Kembangan (along the Damansara Puchong highway) and it is great for people who want to escape the urban jungle and see some unusual animals up close and personal. Farm in the City is beautifully landscaped and an ideal venue for lovers of the great outdoors, the place is divided into several sections including a reptile corner, koi pond and bird aviary. There is a turtle and tortoise section which is home to about five different types of these hard-shell reptiles: meanwhile, the snake sanctuary has rows of the slithering creatures housed in tanks. You will see no shortage of flora at this park, but the real superstars at the farm are the animals, ranging from peacocks, geese and iguanas to marmosets, deer and bunnies.
