Jiak Kim Bridge

Description

The Jiak Kim Bridge (Chinese: 若金桥) is a cable arch pedestrian bridge in Singapore designed by CPG Corporation. The bridge spans the Singapore River near Robertson Quay. Constructed in 1999, it was named after Tan Jiak Kim (陈若锦), grandson of Tam Kin Seng a famous merchant and philanthropist. Tan Jiak Kim was a prominent Straits-born Chinese merchant and political activist during the early 19th century.

Tan Kim Seng (陈金声) also has a bridge named after him a Peranakan trader and philanthropist who owned several properties in the area, including godowns along the river further downstream. He funded the construction of the original bridge at the same location in 1862, as well as the road currently named after him. It was then replaced by the current bridge in 1951. A number of locations in the vicinity are named after Tan Kim Seng as well, such as Kim Seng Walk, Kim Seng Promenade.
