The cross marks the point of 1,172 meters of altitude, chosen as the beginning of the Monumental Axis, which cuts the Plano Piloto in the east-west direction. The sunset seen from the Plaza do Cruzeiro is breathtaking, with magical colors in the sky of Brasilia.
